Seed for the Future Harvest

City On Our Knees 2023

Now there was a famine in the land -- Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him.

Genesis 26: 1, 12 (NIV)

In many ways, the life of Isaac mirrored his father Abraham's life. Both were called by God to live in the land of Canaan and establish themselves there. Times got tough, there was a severe drought. Abraham decided to wait out the hard times in Egypt where there was a plentiful supply of grain. While there, he made some pretty bad choices.

Isaac on the other hand stayed in the land despite the present hard times and sowed seed into the dry and dusty ground. Sowing in a time of famine was an act of faith in the place where God had called Isaac.

Isaac was not perfect in all of his choices either, but he understood that even though he might not live to see the fullness of the promises God had given to Abraham and now him, what he sowed now was for the generations to come.

You have been planted by the Lord to bear fruit where you are and sow His seed in a spiritually dry and dusty place. Prayer is seed that we sow for the future. The question is; Will you cruise down to easy Egypt, or stay where we are called and sow in faith?

Prayer Points

  • Pray for the churches across our City to be faithful in sowing the gospel of Jesus

  • Ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the harvest field.

  • Ask the Lord for boldness and the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with someone today.

  • Identify 3 people you personally know who do not yet know Jesus and pray for their salvation.

  • Ask the Lord if there is anything else He would like you to pray. Listen for His response. Pray what comes to mind. Don't over think it!
