Blessed are the poor.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." Matthew 5:3. In the nine beatitudes we see they all start with blessed. Blessed means to be happy or in favor with God. What does it mean to be poor in spirit, the word poor mean to be crouched down or lowly. Jesus although talks about being poor in spirit. To be spiritually poor, when we have nothing to give God. In life we look for three thing, SIGNIFICANCE, SAFETY AND BELONGING. God wants us to receive those three thing from Him. Follow Pastor Doug as he travels through the Sermon on the mount with us.

Blessed are the meek.

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" Matthew 5:5. Pastor Doug shares with us how it is to be meek in a world that says otherwise. We become far to concern in our earthly comfort. We need to trust in what God has for us so we can inherit the earth and accept God and let Him work in us.

Blessed are those that mourn

Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5-4. The Beatitudes give us a look at how we are to work them in our own lives. We are being change from one degree of Glory to the next. The fact that we mourn over certain things in life shows that the Spirit is in us, and we are being changed into the image of Jesus.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness

In Matthew 5:6 in the sermon on the mount' Jesus say: " Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Pastor Doug tells us how that first spoonful of ice-cream or that first taste of coffee in the morning leaves us wanting more. When we have that first taste of God's righteousness we look for more of that fullness with God. We experience that satisfaction with God when we have that relationship with Him through His son Jesus.

Blessed are the Merciful

Jesus shares with us the Sermon on the Mount, in the fifth beatitude He says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." Matthew 5:3-7. With the fifth beatitudes we start seeing a "crossroad". Pastor Doug shows us how each beatitude sets a platform for each other. To be merciful it leads us to a feeling of compassion to those who are suffering. To being merciful is a doing word, we want to show mercy to others.

Blessed are the Peacemakers

What does it mean to be called a "son of God"? What does it mean to be a Peacemaker? Pastor Doug shares some disturbing statistics on the stats of our world when it comes to conflicts around the earth. When Jesus said Peace maker he meant Shalom: nothing broken, nothing missing. With sin there was no longer shalom between God and man. Doug shares how we can regain that "shalom" with Jesus to help us to be whole again in Him.

Blessed are the persecuted

Rejoice!! Be happy!! Definitely this is not what comes to mind when Jesus shared with us the Beatitude Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. What is the ultimate blessing the ultimate reward? Eventually the ultimate reward of faithfulness out ways any persecution that comes our way. Pastor Doug shares that no matter what comes our way on this earthly life, we are to stay the course to be "Happy" because our reward is greater than anything we can imagine.

SS5 Substitutionary Atonement

In the previous message we saw how Jesus removed the sin barrier by paying a redemption price for humanity. However, that alone would not be enough to secure our salvation. We now turn to the next barrier, penalty of sin. Here we see that Jesus effectively removes this barrier by taking the punishment for our sin upon himself as our substitute.

Sin is a barrier between humanity and God. In this message, we see how Jesus deals with the problem of sin. By paying a redemption price with his own blood, Jesus has set us free from slavery to sin.
